As part of the unprecedented exhibition, Spanish Paradise: Gardens of the Alhambra, immerse yourself in the culture of Spain without ever leaving New York. Inside the historic Enid A. Haupt Conservatory explore the collaboration of sublime nature and dramatic design that created an earthly paradise as fountains tinkle and the perfume of jasmine, roses, herbs, and citrus blossoms wash over you. Read the works of Federico García Lorca as you stroll the gardens surrounding the Conservatory, enjoy flamenco each weekend, and discover the food and culture of Spain in the Garden's two cafes.

Both the Garden Cafe and the Leon Levy Visitor Center Cafe will feature a rotating menu of tapas, the small but delicious snacks that have roared out of Spain to take over the culinary world. Sample Croquetas (croquettes with artichoke and Manchego cheese), Pimientos de Piquillo Rellenos (stuffed Piquillo peppers), Jamón con Aceitunas (Spanish ham with olives), and Chorizo ​​con Higos (Chorizo and figs), while sipping a glass of traditional or virgin red sangria.

After a lingering lunch or quick snack, explore the history of tourism at the Alhambra in the complementary exhibition in the LuEsther T. Mertz Library, Historical Views: Tourists at the Alhambra. This exclusive exhibition features rare prints, historical photographs, watercolor drawings, and objects from the rich collections of the Hispanic Society of America. Then, make like a tourist and treat yourself to a souvenir from Shop in the Garden which is stocked with beautiful items imported directly from the gift shop of the Alhambra in Spain!

An afternoon spent strolling the galleries of the Conservatory, reading inspiring poetry, sipping sangria, sharing tapas, exploring history, and delighting in time spent with friends, family, and nature is like traveling to Spain without ever having to step foot in an international departures terminal.
