ESCHWEILERA PEDICELLATA
zygomorphic flowers, with nectar as a reward

The large, odorless flowers are trapline-pollinated by long-tongued euglossine bees (see next slide). The bees seem to memorize the positions of the inflorescences and visit them one after the other, day after day. Each inflorescence produces a single flower per day over a several month period. The flowers are odorless and the nectar is produced at the apex of the coil (see right hand panel).
