Branch with fruits of the terra firme species Lecythis chartacea. When the fruits are ripe, the lid drops and the seeds with their basal arils are exposed to animal dispersal agents, presumably bats..


The seeds of Lecythis chartacea, note the basal arils which are similar to those of L. pisonis, a bat dispersed species .
