Vismia sessilifolia (Aubl.) Choisy

Seeds ellipsoid, straight, or curved, 1.7-2.5 x 0.8-0.9 mm, brown, glossy, the raphal side concave/flat, the antiraphal side convex, the transverse section roundish, the surface reticulate, with concave, slightly wrinkled outer periclinal cell walls. Hilum small, roundish; vascular bundle enters chalaza. Seed coat of 3 cell layers; exotesta with large cells, the cells square or rectangular in section, the anticlinal walls slightly undulate, the outer periclinal walls thickened; endotesta one (more in raphe) layer of cells, the cells with reticulate thickened walls; all cells of testa filled with brown pigment; exotegmen persistent, a layer of unequal sized sclereids, the cell walls undulate, considerably thickened, the cell lumen small, either at apex, middle, or base of cell, filled with small, prismatic crystals, the pore channels thin. Endosperm one layered. Embryo linear, straight, large, occupying most of seed, the cotyledons approximately 4/5 of embryo length, plano-convex.
