REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. or M.S. in botany/biology, course work in taxonomy.
- Two years or more of hands-on experience in working in a herbarium.
- Experience with databases and word-processing software.
- Capable of organized work and accurate, efficient computer entry of botanical and geographical information.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Portuguese (or Spanish) language preferred.
- Ability to reach specimens in cabinets 8 ft high and at ground level.
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all aspects of collections processing and supervise the work of the employees and students who process collections.
- Supervise processing of plant collections, including data entry and production of labels, recording and reporting of identifications.
- Participate in the design of database reports needed for processing collections.
- Assist visiting scientists in use of the herbarium.
- Enter specimen data into electronic catalogues.
- Lead tours of the herbarium for public groups.
- Assist with administration of phanerogamic herbarium as needed.
- Other herbarium tasks as needed.
