of the Cryptogamic Herbarium, manages the budget, and supervises six Curatorial
Assistants, the Imaging Coordinator, and the Science Information Managers.

As Associate Vice President for Collections and Publications, Dr. Holmgren
has overall responsibility for the Herbarium, the LuEster T. Mertz Library,
and the NYBG Press.
Associate Director and Curator of the Herbarium: Jacquelyn
Kallunki

As Associate Director and Curator of the Herbarium, Dr. Kallunki oversees
the daily operation of the Phanerogamic section of the Herbarium and coordinates
the work of its staff.
Secretary

The Herbarium Secretary is responsible for coordinating the use of the
NYBG apartment for herbarium visitors, herbarium correspondence, ordering
supplies, and preparing final copies of reports and grant proposals.
Administrative Curator

The Administrative Curator oversees the herbarium visitor program, manages
specimen exchange for publication/purchase, contributes to the Science
web site, and participates in curation of the Herbarium.
Senior Information Managers

The Senior Information Managers coordinate the activities of the entire
Science Information Management staff, and manage the Science section of
the NYBG web site. They are responsible for CASSIA (the NYBG on-line Virtual
Herbarium), and also manage the non-vascular plant specimen catalog data.

The Science Information Managers train all new users of the database
system in the operation of the database and also in interpretation of specimen
label data. The Information Managers supervise the specimen cataloging
process by keeping track of the various cataloging projects that are going
on within the institution and preside over meetings of catalogers where
policies, questions, and concerns regarding cataloging are discussed. They
work with the Computer Services Department staff to specify any changes
or additions needed to the specimen database system. The Science Information
Managers also prepare specimen records for posting to the World Wide Web
and design web pages for NYBG Herbarium Projects. The Imaging Coordinator
manages the Specimen Imaging Center, where herbarium specimens (currently
the vascular plant type specimens) are photographed to accompany the on-line
specimen catalog.

The Collections Managers supervise the mounters and filers, provide
orientation and training of interns and graduate students from NYBG's joint
programs, supervise and participate in the processing of collections made
by NYBG staff members and their project associates, and catalog specimens.

The Curatorial Assistants process Institute of Systematic Botany staff
collections, enter field data for labels into the computer database, catalog
specimen data, orient visiting researchers, pull requested loans, and answer
requests for data from NY specimens.

The Specimen Mounters mount new specimens and repair specimens for loan.
The Specimen Filers file all newly accessioned specimens, returned loans,
and newly-made specimen covers.
Shipping Supervisor

The Shipping Supervisor has overall responsibility for the Herbarium
Shipping office and opens, counts, and keeps records on the incoming shipments.
She is also responsible for freezing all incoming shipments and newly-mounted
specimens.

records for outgoing shipments.
