The Barriguda (Pot-belly tree), Cavanillesia arborea , in the Caatinga

Caatinga is an Indian term meaning "white forest" which describes the appearance of leafless forest in the dry season.  It is a deciduous, thorny thicket well adapted to the unpredictable rains and arid conditions of the interior of northeastern Brazil.
