Boletellus obscurecoccineus (v. Höhn.) Singer

Originally described from Java, this appears to be a commonly encountered entity in Australia with several morpho-types. The stipe is usually some shade of red but not always; however there are fine scabers in any case.

The spores are longitudinally ribbed but finely so without cross striae.

The flesh and hymenophore are not cyanescent, and the base of the stipe is white.
