The smooth hymenophore, gray to grayish brown stipe, infundibuliform pileus, mostly 2-spored basidia, and spore size will distinguish this taxon from others in the genus that are sympatric (e.g., C. boyacensis). First described from the USA, it is widely scattered, but not common, around the region of Cerro de la Muerte.
