The brightly colored, astipitate basidiomata with a strong and disagreeable odor are characteristic for this taxon. Also, a pink spore deposit that yields smooth, allantoid spores are additional features of distinction. It has been found on downed, dead Quercus logs. As an obligate lignicole, it no doubt migrated with the oak community to the Neotropics in a similar manner as the mycorrhizal agarics.
