This Phaeocollybia is known in Costa Rica from high elevations (›2800 m) and appears under Comarostaphylis arbutoides in the páramo and below timberline where that plant is mixed with Quercus costaricensis. The spores are finely ornamented, subamygdaliform with faint germ pore, and the cheilocystidia are occasionally subcapitate.
