The violet and yellow colors along with the tomentose to densely fibrillose surfaces seem diagnostic. Microscopically, conspicuous and abundant hymenial cystidia with violet pigment are present. Originally described from Florida, USA, it is known to occur now on dead wood in a Quercus sp. stand in the northern Talamancas near Palo Verde.
