Tricholosporum violaceum Halling & Franco-M.

This agaric was just described (Mycologia 88: 666. 1996) based on collections from near Monteverde in the Cordillera Tilaran and near the Panamanian border in the Cordillera Talamanca. It is a large mushroom (up to 13 cm broad) with striking violet colors. The basidiospores are diagnostically rhomboid in this species.
