This is a key to the "tropical" (not temperate) species of Ericaceae in Argentina, and in effect covers only the Ericaceae of the northern provinces of Jujuy and Salta (north of the Tropic of Capricorn), where tropical montane forests occur.

1.  Ovary superior.
      2.  Fruit and calyx dry.
           3.  Petiole slender, flexuous, elongate, (3.5-)5-17 mm long;  leaves
                ± flat, the base cuneate to rounded and often slightly asymmetric,
                the apex acuminate .............................................. Agarista boliviensis
           3.  Petiole stout, not flexuous, short, 2.5-6 mm long;  leaves plane to
                very slightly revolute especially near base, the base itself rounded
                to cordate, the apex acute- to rounded-mucronate or slightly
                acuminate ....................................................... Agarista paraguayensis
      2.  Fruit fleshy (berry), or fruit dry (capsule) but with calyx fleshy.
           4.  Fruit a true berry .................................................. Pernettya prostrata
           4.  Fruit a capsule, surrounded by the fleshy calyx.
                5.  Plants with multicellular hairs which are eglandular ...

                5.  Plants with multicellular hairs which are usually conspicuously
