Elaphoglossum Character List

List of characters and character states recorded for our study of Elaphoglossum. Continuously variable characters (i.e.,rhizome scale length, rhizome habit) were scored for eventual use in an electronic key. Only discrete characters will be used in our cladistic analysis. All characters will be scored as nonadditive.

1. rhizome habit: long-creeping = 0; short-creeping = 1; compact = 2; erect = 3.

2. rhizome diameter (mm): 1-2 = 0; 2-4 = 1; 4-10 = 2; >10 = 3.

3. rhizome glutinous: yes = 0; no = 1.

4. number of ranks of leaves on rhizome: 2 rows on dorsal side (distichous) = 0; > 2 two rows on dorsal side = 1; polystichous (radially
