Plant Hunters This online education resource makes it possible for you to explore virtually the diverse plants and biomes housed in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. With fun and engaging plant science challenges for your students along with images, information, and audio content for more than 60 plants from the rain forest to the desert, this online tool is a perfect supplement to your classroom.

Seasonal Plant Explorations in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden
With seasonally changing landscapes, a dynamic wetland and pond, and exhibition-related plantings, the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden provides a living and vibrant stage for hands-on learning about the plants in our world. The Children′s Adventure Garden includes both outdoor and indoor learning galleries.

Plant Science Workshops at the GreenSchool
Plant Science Workshops include an inquiry-based lesson, hands-on activities and scientific experiments. Classroom lessons are followed by an exploration of either the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, the Forest, or the Botanical Garden grounds. Teaching methods for these workshops are specifically adapted to different learning styles and developmental needs.

Gardening Workshops in the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden
Gardening Workshops introduce students to the hands-on excitement of growing vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Students learn the basics of good gardening with activities such as planting, watering, weeding, composting, and harvesting.
The Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden grows only with the help of children and families. Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty tending and tasting edible plants. Discover native wildflowers flourishing in our meadow and learn about the Lenape — the first gardeners to tend plants in the Bronx.

Enid A. Haupt Conservatory for Grades Pre-K–8
Students explore the biodiversity of plant life as they travel through the rain forest and desert glasshouse biomes of the Conservatory. Students discover up-close the adaptations plants use to protect themselves from the challenging environmental conditions of these habitats and explore plants people use for food, medicine, and shelter. Britton Science Rotunda and Gallery Exhibition for Grades 6–12
Discover the research of the Garden’s scientists with a guided investigation of the 4th floor exhibition in the Library building. Navigate the virtual plant records, explore the Tree of Life, and discuss the diversity and evolution of plants from around the world. All Seasons
Self-Guided
Times: All Day
Holiday Train Show for Grades Pre-K–8 During this self-guided visit to the Conservatory, students see model trains and trolleys as they move through magical landscapes of historic New York State buildings all made from natural materials. (Register with Gingerbread Adventures for $200; see page 12.) Cost: $125 per class November 20–January 11
Enid A. Haupt Conservatory for Pre-K–8 Using a colorful, fact-filled map as your guide, lead your class on a journey through the world of plants inside the glasshouse biomes of the Conservatory. Students explore the rain forests, deserts, and aquatic environments and search for plants used as medicines, trees that produce chocolate, and roots that grow above ground. Cost: $50 per class

Outdoor Nature Walks
Guided
Cost: $100 per class Times: 10:15–11:15 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Sensory Walk for Grades K–8
While traversing different areas of the Botanical Garden, students participate in activities designed to enhance their sensory awareness. Using their eyes, ears, noses and fingers, they deepen their observational skills and experience nature up close. This one-hour guided tour is adaptable for different learning styles and needs. Wooded Walk for Grades 2–8
What makes a tree a tree? What are the parts of a tree? What type of creatures live in trees? Discover the answers to these questions and many more as your class is guided through an exploration of one of the last remaining uncut forests in the New York City region. Search for evidence of the many different animals that live in, on, or under trees, and learn some ways to identify one tree from another. All Seasons
Poetry Walk for Grades 2–8
Students look at the connection between literature, nature, and science by making scientific observations of plants and wildlife to create individual and group poems in a similar setting that inspired poets like Emily Dickinson. Students read poems and experience how the poet may have felt as they walk through the Botanical Garden’s collections. Spring

Programs for Teachers
Customized Professional Development Workshops
These half- or full-day programs are available for prearranged groups of educators (minimum of 12 participants). Choose from the topics below or suggest your own and our staff will work with you to customize a program suited to the needs of your group.

Seasonal Institutes
Seasonal Institutes provide a six-day immersion in plants, nature, and science led by the Botanical Garden’s educators. Participants in these dynamic programs learn how to make science fun through field-tested, hands- on, inquiry-based activities. Teachers discover how to make the Garden an extension of their classroom while enriching the curriculum with resources and more.
Lesson plans, activities, and reproducible curriculum materials are provided for use back at school.

FBI: Forensic Botany Investigations for Grades 6–8
By conducting investigations and searching for clues, students explore the importance of plants and build skills such as concept mapping, data collection, and analysis.
Ethnobotany Explorers for Grades 9–12
Students follow researchers and healers deep into the forests of Belize as they search for medicinal plants and learn how to conduct scientific investigations.

Girl and Boy Scouts:
Bring your Girl and Boy Scout troops to the Garden for an after-school program specially tailored to help your Scouts earn a badge. During this hands-on, indoor/outdoor program, Garden educators will work with your troop to fulfill the requirements for the badges.

Explainer Program:
This volunteer program for teenagers provides a chance to make new friends, spend time outdoors, and develop new skills. Explainers volunteer in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden to help facilitate programs and assist visitors.

General Information
Registration and Payment
- Advance registration and payment are required for all programs.
- Combined classes are not permitted. Prices indicated are for one class. Special needs classes with fewer than 12 students are accommodated at a lower fee.
- An invoice will be mailed or faxed to the school detailing visit schedule and payment.
- Payment is due two weeks after registration is received.
The scheduled visit is not confirmed until payment is received.
Payment may be made by purchase order, check, money order, or credit card (Mastercard/ VISA/AMEX). Purchase order copies must be received two weeks before day of scheduled visit. New York City Department of Education Vendor Code NEW095. Please note that you are responsible for forwarding purchase order information to your district.

Changes and Cancellations
If you make a scheduling change, we will attempt to reschedule your visit within the school year. After the first scheduling change, a $15 processing fee will be charged for each additional change. Cancellations made at least 4 weeks in advance will receive a full refund. Cancellations made 2–4 weeks in advance will be refunded 50%. For cancellations made 2 weeks or less before a program, there are no refunds.
Before Arrival
You will be mailed a map with specific entrance and exit procedures for the school group entrance, the Everett Garden Gate. If your group is traveling on more than one bus, please make sure that a teacher on each bus has a bus pass and a group entrance pass.
Bus Pass: Put the color-coded bus pass in the front window of the bus. This is the only way Garden staff will be able to direct you to the correct program.
Group Entrance Pass: Please fill this out before disembarking the bus. Please consult these materials before arrival.
Arrival
Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in and get to your specific program location. All school buses should stop at the Garden’s school group entrance, the Everett Garden Gate, located on Kazimiroff Boulevard across from Fordham University. From there, they will be directed to either disembark or proceed to a different location. Bus parking is not available within the Garden. However, there is street parking along Kazimiroff Boulevard. All programs will end at the originally scheduled time. Groups arriving more than one-half hour late will be cancelled. No refunds are available.
Chaperones
For Pre-K, one adult chaperone is required per five students. For Grades K and above, one adult chaperone is required per seven students. A maximum of five additional chaperones may accompany a class for an additional fee of $12 per person.
Inclement Weather
Programs run rain or shine. Please have students dress appropriately for the weather. If you choose to reschedule, please call by 8:30 a.m.
Accessibility
The Botanical Garden, its buildings, and its tour vehicles are accessible. However, portions of the Family Garden, Rose Garden, Home Gardening Center, Conservatory, and Forest may be inaccessible due to rocky, muddy, and/or narrow paths. Also, sign language interpreters are available. Please notify the Children’s Education Registration office of any special needs at least 48 hours in advance of your visit.
Lunch
All school groups must bring lunches. There are no indoor lunch facilities. School groups are invited to eat in the Clay Family Picnic Pavilions located near the Everett Garden Gate.

All school buses should stop at the Garden’s school group entrance, the Everett Garden Gate, located on Kazimiroff Boulevard across from Fordham University.

From Western Westchester
Major Deegan Expressway South Take the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) southbound to the E. 233rd Street exit. Make a left onto 233rd Street and follow to Webster Avenue. Turn right onto Webster Avenue and follow to Bedford Park Boulevard. Turn left onto Bedford Park and continue to light. Turn right on Kazimiroff to Crotona Avenue. Turn left onto E. Fordham Road and left onto Kazimiroff Boulevard. The Garden is on your right.
From Manhattan and New Jersey
Cross-Bronx Expressway North Take the Cross-Bronx Expressway (I-95) north to the Webster Avenue exit. Make a left onto Webster Avenue and follow to 180th Street. Turn right onto 180th Street. Turn left onto Southern Boulevard. Southern Boulevard turns into Kazimiroff Boulevard once you pass E. Fordham Road. The Garden is on your right.
From Long Island and Queens
New England Thruway North Take the New England Thruway (I-95) north to Pelham Parkway West exit. Take Pelham Parkway to Kazimiroff Boulevard. Turn right onto Kazimiroff Boulevard. The Garden is on your right.
From Connecticut and Eastern Westchester
New England Thruway South Take the New England Thruway (I-95) south to Pelham Parkway West exit. Take Pelham Parkway to Kazimiroff Boulevard. Turn right onto Kazimiroff Boulevard. The Garden is on your right.
