Explore the borough's rich history of community building and healing through community farms and gardens. Meet gardeners who grow fruits, vegetables and herbs, cook healthy meals, and sell locally grown fresh produce.

Each tour (except Edible Academy) includes a delicious, healthy lunch catered by Bronx-based B-Blossom.Tickets are $20, (Children 2–12 years are $12), cash or check made payable to The New York Botanical Garden.  

All proceeds go to the participating community gardens and urban farms.

SOUTH BRONX WALKING TOUR
NEW DATE: Saturday, July 27; 10:30 a.m.–2:15 p.m
Meet the tour guide by 10:30 a.m. at the Cypress Avenue 6 Train stop (in front of Iglesia De Dios). Tour leaves promptly at 11 a.m. Leaves from La Finca Del Sur at 2:15 p.m.

This tour features the bounty of fresh food grown here in the Bronx and available at local farmers markets. Visit the flourishing 138th Street Community Garden and Padre Plaza which boast food production, a Wednesday market, and seasonal events in the garden. We’ll dine at Brook Park, a community hub for green growth, not just of plants but also of people. Then we’ll stop at the South Bronx Farmers Market to allow for some shopping of farm-fresh produce on the way to our final stop, La Finca del Sur Urban Farm, whose crops contribute to the community market.

HIGHBRIDGE COMMUNITY GARDENS WALKING TOUR
Saturday, August 17; 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
Meet the tour guide at 11 a.m. at East 161st Street and Grand Concourse (3 blocks east of the 161-Yankee Stadium 4, B, D station). Tour leaves promptly at 11:30 a.m. Returns at 3 p.m.

The Highbridge neighborhood takes its name from the adjacent bridge built in 1848 by Irish immigrants, and hosts several community gardens occupying lots that were vacant between the 1970s and 1990s. Visit three longstanding community gardens to explore their history, meet the gardeners who currently care for them, and take part in a cooking demonstration that shows how Bronxites have been using the land to heal themselves for over 2 decades. We will first visit Woodycrest Community Garden, then La Isla Community Garden and our our final stop will be at Taqwa Community Farm.

NYBG EDIBLE ACADEMY WALKING TOUR Saturday, September 21; 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m.
Meet at the Mosholu Entrance at 11:30 a.m. Group departs promptly at 12 p.m.

The Edible Academy is a state-of-the-art educational facility featuring hands-on activities and innovative programs where you can learn about growing and preparing vegetables, fruit, and herbs. The site’s combination of indoor and outdoor spaces includesthe Ruth Rea Howell Vegetable Garden, sustainable infrastructure, the Classroom building with demonstration kitchen, technology lab and green roof. Tour includes garden activities and cooking demonstration. With tour ticket you may stay to explore NYBG and special exhibitions through 6 p.m.
