A Passionate Grower
Heirloom Melons and Squashes From the Gardens of
Amy Goldman:

An Exhibition of Photographs by Victor Schrager
September 29, 2007 – June 29, 2008
In the Arthur and Janet Ross Gallery

The 30 bold and sensual color portraits on display celebrate the beauty, texture, and shape found in these ancient fruits and blend the talents and interests of photographer Victor Schrager and grower/author Amy Goldman.

Mr. Schrager draws on a long tradition of botanical imagery. His photographs have been exhibited around the world and appear in numerous books; he is a frequent contributor to Martha Stewart Living and House & Garden magazines.

The sculpture-like melons, pumpkins, squashes, and gourds in the exhibited images were grown by Ms. Goldman in her Hudson River Valley gardens. A self-described “vegetable rights activist,” she has a particular passion for the Cucurbitaceae family, to which melons and squashes belong.

Ms. Goldman and Mr. Schrager have collaborated on two books: Melons for the Passionate Grower (2002) and The Compleat Squash: A Passionate Grower’s Guide to Pumpkins, Squashes, and Gourds (2004). The books are available at the Botanical Garden’s Shop in the Garden.

Exhibitions in the Arthur and Janet Ross Gallery
are made possible by support from the Arthur and
Janet Ross Fund.
