Large patch with Polygonum cuspidatum, in floodplain of Bronx River, upstream from the upper Garden bridge and just downstream from the Kazamiroff Drive bridge. A serious invasive in the Garden, forming large and expanding patches in lawns, forests, and especially the floodplain of the Bronx River. Petals bright yellow; filaments and anthers bright yellow; inner side of petals shiny.

Tree 9 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter, about 3 seen escaped here into forest on slopes along Bronx River, this one near bottom of slope, below the Magnolia collection, with Phellodendron amurense, Quercus rubra, Acer rubrum.

Shrub 3 m. tall, the largest stem 5 cm. in diameter. Stems aromatic when scratched. Flowers light yellow, odorless (3:30 P.M., sunny, cool).

Tree 15 m. tall, 55 cm. in diameter, floodplain of Bronx River, downstream from Twin Lakes Bridge, evidently native. Bark with alternating brown and white layers. With Acer rubrum, A. negundo, Polygonum cuspidatum, Ranunculus ficaria.

Tree originally 45 cm. in diameter, now fallen over and the old trunk rotting, a large upright branch is now 10 m. tall. Female; fruit bright dark red.

Abundant on slope with large Liriodendron tulipifera, Fagus grandifolia, Phellodendron amurense, between Magnolia collection and Bronx River. Leaves green with irregular purple mottling. Flowers nodding; outer tepals purple-brown on back, yellow within; inner tepals yellow; anthers reddish orange; filaments yellow.

Tree 12 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter, branched just above the base; bark smooth, gray. Inflorescence hanging, yellow-green with brown on tips of bracts, not yet in full bloom.

Probably an escaped individual, in native forest of Liriodendron tulipifera, Fagus grandifolia, below the Magnolia collection, at bottom of slope along Bronx River. Tree 12 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter; bark smooth, with large, prominent, horizontal lenticels. Petals with some pink on outside in bud; open flowers almost completely white.

A few plants on slope with Prunus serotina, Alliaria petiolata, above Magnolia collection, probably a casual escape. Flowers blue, nodding on erect pedicels.

Numerous shrubs in woods between Montgomery Conifer collection and Bronx River, just below the bridge over the Bronx River near the Snuff Mill. Shrubs to 2 m. tall. Pith seems to be solid at some nodes and not at others. The pith can be hollow in one part of a twig and chambered in another part; sometimes it is chambered immediately adjacent to the solid node and then hollow elsewhere. Flowers odorless, bright yellow. Uncertain if planted or naturalized in this area.

Tree 5 m. tall, 10 cm. in diameter; bark smooth. Buds very pale pink, the open flowers white. Appears to be a casual escape, but perhaps planted. Wooded area with Liquidambar styraciflua, Acer rubrum, between the Snuff Mill and the Bronx Zoo.

Clump, uncertain if planted or perhaps a casual escape, wooded area with Liquidambar styraciflua, Acer rubrum, between the Snuff Mill and the Bronx Zoo. Tepals very pale yellow; corona bright yellow.

Strictly erect, single-stemmed herbs in thick, healthy sod of unshaded lawn in well in front of the Museum/Library Building, New York Botanical Garden. Only seen in this patch of lawn and evidently introduced with sod restoration in the last couple of years. Flowers bright yellow, strongly and not pleasantly fragrant, withh a few other weeds, Arabidopsis thaliana, cf. Stellaria media.

Small tree with three trunks from base, 12 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter; bark gray, with long furrows. Flowers with very faint fragrance; petals white; anthers creamy. Perhaps planted or perhaps escaped. Along bridge over Bronx River.
