Shrub with several arching stems, 2.5 m. tall, to 3 cm. in diameter; bark loose, in long, more or less papery. Along bridge on side of Lower Twin Lake, not certain if planted or not, brushy, disturbed area with both native, naturalized and planted species, with Aralia elata, Phellodendron amurense. Flowers fragrant, visited by by Apis mellifera (2:45 P.M., sunny); corolla white; anthers yellow.

Tree 10 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter. Cones from ground. Several trees here at edge of bridge over Twin Lakes, planted in partly wooded area.

Common in places at edge of lawn, forming clumps, near Operations Building, with Aralia elata, Cornus mas, mixture of wild and cultivated species. Inner tepals with green zone at tip. Flowers nodding.

Cultivated shrub 4.5 m. tall, 18 cm. in diameter, between Family Garde and Operations Building. Bark light brown, finely flaky. Flowers odorless, bright yellow.

Erect rosette herbs in thin, frost-worked soil over bedrock. Also present in slightly deeper soil on grass sward, but mostly smaller there and not yet blooming. Petals white.

Male tree 9 m. tall, 30 cm. in diameter. Bronx River floodplain near highway bridge by Bronx Zoo. Bud scales and flowers red; filaments white at base, pink distally; anthers red, then turning black after pollen released.
