Gift Annuity
A gift annuity is a contract between you and the Garden. In exchange for an irrevocable charitable contribution of cash or securities valued at $5,000 or more, you or your designated beneficiary will receive regular fixed payments for life. A portion of the initial gift is tax deductible as a charitable contribution to the Garden, and part of each annuity payment is usually tax free. While there is no minimum age to fund a gift annuity, the beneficiary must be at least 60 years old before distributions begin. The payout rates typically exceed dividend and CD yields and are very attractive when coupled with other tax benefits.
Deferred Gift Annuity
An excellent retirement strategy is the deferred gift annuity, which allows you to make a gift right away but delay the payout. A good option for individuals in their 40s, it allows you to provide a gift now, receive a generous tax deduction at the time of the gift, and enjoy exceedingly generous annuity payments. While there is no minimum age to fund a deferred gift annuity, the beneficiary must be at least 60 years old before payments begin.
Deferred gift annuities can provide for children, nieces, or nephews, and at the same time allow you to support The New York Botanical Garden, especially when the gift annuity is funded through a bequest.
