Rare Orchid Books on Display
On display in the Rare Book and Folio Room of the LuEsther T. Mertz Library throughout The Orchid Show are books, dating to the 1830s, depicting a variety of beautiful, exotic orchids. The authors include eminent botanist John Lindley, considered by many to be “the father of orchidology”; F. Sander, the “Royal Orchid Grower” for Queen Victoria; and J.J. Linden, one of the foremost suppliers of orchids in Europe in the mid-1800s. Hours: Noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday–Thursday, Noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday

New Book Available
A broad range of scientific subjects on the most current knowledge in orchidology is presented in Orchid Biology: Reviews and Perspectives, IX, edited by Kenneth M. Cameron, Joseph Arditti, and Tiiu Kull and recently released by The New York Botanical Garden Press. Chapters spotlight a leader in the field of orchid research; orchid pollination by Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths); and the origin of Singapore’s national flower, the well-known Vanda ‘Miss Joaquim’; among other topics.
