But he wasn&#8217;t here to see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nybg.org\/gardens\/flowering-trees-shrubs.php\">cherry blossoms<\/a> or to catch a glimpse of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nybg.org\/blogs\/plant-talk\/2011\/01\/wildlife\/justin-and-jose-were-here\/\">Jos\u00e9 and Justin<\/a>. Nope, Mario was here for one very good reason: To promote children&#8217;s gardening through the launch of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nybg.org\/gardens\/mario-batali-edible-garden.php\">Mario Batali&#8217;s Edible Garden<\/a><\/em> at the<a href=\"..\/..\/gardens\/test_garden.php?id_gardens_collections=59\"> Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden<\/a>. With help from parents, volunteers, and staff,  children dig, weed, compost, plant, tend, and harvest. Themed activities  change monthly.
