The Biodiversity Heritage Library<\/a> Flickr photostream<\/a> contains several digital image collections, including Flowering Plants<\/a>, Algae, Ferns, Fungi & Mosses<\/a>, and BHL Books<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Featured in the BHL Books collection is the atlas from Jean Gourdon and Philibert Naudin\u2019s 1871 work\u00a0Nouvelle iconographie fourrag\u00e8re: histoire botanique, \u00e9conomique et agricole des plantes fourrag\u00e8res et des plantes nuisibles qui se rencontrent dans les prairies et les paturages : avec planches grav\u00e9es sur cuivre et colori\u00e9es<\/em><\/a> \/ par J. Gourdon, P. Naudin<\/em>. This item was digitized in 2009 by The New York Botanical Garden<\/a>\u2019s Mertz Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The atlas<\/a> includes an illustration of a coquelicot, or corn poppy:<\/p>\n

(Side note: also in the 1870s, in Argenteuil, France, Claude Monet painted his famous Coquelicots (Poppies)<\/a>, which today resides at the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay<\/a> in Paris.)<\/p>\n

The Biodiversity Heritage Library is a consortium of twelve natural history and botanical libraries that cooperate to digitize and make accessible the legacy literature of biodiversity held in their collections and to make that literature available for open access and responsible use as a part of a global \u201cbiodiversity commons.\u201d<\/p>\n
