\"\"<\/a>Is it too early to plan for your child’s critically acclaimed gallery showings? Maybe not! Because sometimes inspiration just needs a little coaxing. Join the NYBG<\/a> on Saturday, July 28, as we host MasterCard\u00ae<\/sup> “Priceless Budding Masters”<\/a> in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden<\/a>, guiding each young artist through a hands-on exploration of the links between nature and their own boundless creativity.<\/p>\n

Just as Claude Monet looked to his garden to find his muse, kids will enjoy the opportunity to indulge inspiration through the plants and flowers around them, channeling what they see, smell, and touch into masterpieces of their own. Once finished, each young Impressionist’s painting will be photographed for our online gallery–or even hang in the Budding Masters Gallery if your child chooses. That’s a long way from sticking it on the kitchen fridge. So be sure to sign up today<\/a>, as remaining spots are sure to disappear quickly!

\nElsewhere in the Garden, we’re continuing this summer’s theme of foodie fun with everything from pickles to parsley. Mario Batali’s Kitchen Garden<\/a> is once again leading the table in the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden<\/a>, where you’ll learn about some of the local, seasonal ingredients going into each of our special Family Dinner events<\/a>. You can also pick up some of Mario’s favorite Italian recipes. And if you’re hoping for something to get the entire family involved with, “Pickle Me!” also kicks off this weekend, letting you in on the most surprising secret of brining your own pickles: it’s incredibly easy!<\/p>\n

This exclusive MasterCard\u00ae<\/sup> experience will give kids a chance to discover their inner Monet during a hands-on art and nature workshop produced in collaboration with Studio in a School<\/a>. Your “Budding Master” will be guided through an entire afternoon of fun by a visiting instructor from Studio in a School and a NYBG Science Educator at the NYBG Adventure Garden. Kids will discover how Impressionist painters drew inspiration from nature; go on an exploration of the Adventure Garden to observe nature like a scientist; and then create their very own nature-inspired masterpieces. $75 for non-Members, $50 for Members. Stop by Inspiration Station to play our outdoor marimba. Paint with water and experiment with colors in our Color Clash Studio. Step inside to experiment with the engineering behind aquatic plants. Nature is art–discover it at the Adventure Garden. Also on view: an exhibition by students from Studio in a School.<\/p>\n

Hands-On Gardening Activities for Families: Pickle Me!<\/strong>

Go on a Pickle Parade through the Family Garden to learn about plants–both familiar and unfamiliar–that take part in the pickling process. Learn what it takes to pickle and make your very own batch of pickles to savor back at home. Cooking demonstrations at 2 and 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.<\/p>\n

The Edible Garden<\/strong>

The Edible Garden returns to the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden this year, bringing plenty of events for both adults and kids alike with daily, family-friendly activities, cooking demonstrations in the Whole Foods Market Family Garden Kitchen, and hands-on gardening fun.<\/p>\n

A Garden friend and chef extraordinaire, Mario Batali takes a featured role in this year’s Edible Garden. Visit the beds of herbs and vegetables in “Mario Batali’s Kitchen Gardens,” where you can pick up some of his favorite recipes. Later, join Mario and other top chefs for The Edible Garden Festival, featuring tastings, harvest activities, and a chance to sit down to dinner with the man himself.
