But when it comes to raising <a title=\"Plant Talk\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nybg.org\/blogs\/plant-talk\/2012\/07\/gardens-and-collections\/monets-water-lilies-inspiration-meets-obsession\/\"><em>Nymphaea<\/em><\/a>, the leap from yard to pond can be intimidating! We understand the hesitance. This weekend, the <a title=\"The New York Botanical Garden\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nybg.org\">NYBG<\/a>&#8216;s horticultural staff aims to dispel that air of mystery just long enough to help our visitors understand the rewards of growing water lilies at home. With a dash of confidence and the right planting, even New Yorkers can spice up their summer displays with these exotic eye catchers.<\/p>\n<p>For the uninitiated, this is your cue to visit the Garden&#8217;s own hardy and tropical water lily ponds in the <a title=\"Enid A. Haupt Conservatory\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nybg.org\/gardens\/conservatory\/\">Conservatory<\/a> Courtyard, where <em>Nymphaea<\/em> and <a title=\"Plant Talk\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nybg.org\/blogs\/plant-talk\/2012\/07\/gardens-and-collections\/poolside-with-the-lotus\/\"><em>Nelumbo<\/em><\/a>, the lotus, are firmly planted in the\u00a0<em><a title=\"Monet's Garden\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nybg.org\/exhibitions\/2012\/monet\/index.php\">Monet&#8217;s Garden<\/a><\/em> spotlight. It&#8217;s where we&#8217;re featuring a few of the artist&#8217;s favorite cultivars, along with a number of newer creations from the <a title=\"Latour-Marliac Nursery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.latour-marliac.com\/newshistoire1.php?idlangue=1\" target=\"_blank\">Latour-Marliac Nursery<\/a>, Monet&#8217;s go-to supplier for much of his life at Giverny. Once you&#8217;ve experienced these aquatic icons as they&#8217;re meant to be seen, and picked up a few pointers on their upkeep, make your way to the <a title=\"Shop in the Garden\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nybgshop.org\">Shop in the Garden<\/a> for the supplies you&#8217;ll need to grow water lilies at home!<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nDemonstration groups are set to meet at 2 p.m. near the Conservatory entrance, both Saturday and Sunday.
