\"Rosa<\/a>It’s summer! Or is it? Given the unpredictable weather of the past few weeks, I guess it comes as little surprise that several days of hazy, hot, and humid afternoons would end with spring reasserting herself just as we hit the three day, “unofficial start of summer” weekend. But don’t let that put a damper on your long weekend plans! We’ve got plenty of warmth, color, and activities to help you relax going into the new season.<\/p>\n

In the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, Wild Medicine: Healing Plants Around the World<\/em><\/a> continues to delight with a one-two punch of geeky knowledge and Renaissance beauty. Enjoy tasting stations featuring delicious and healthy treats made from chocolate, tropical fruits, and soothing tea around the Conservatory Courtyard Pools where the hardy waterlilies<\/a> are again in bloom. You can also spend time with Philip Haas’ amazing Four Seasons<\/em><\/a>, monumental sculptural renderings of the surreal paintings of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, “rendered in trompe l’oeil vegetables, flowers and other horticulture.<\/a>”<\/p>\n

Outside of the Conservatory, there’s plenty that’s beautiful and in bloom around our 250 acres. Favorite subjects of the Garden’s photography enthusiasts, the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden<\/a> and the herbaceous peonies<\/a> are back in bloom, and a plethora of other gardens<\/a> are also looking fine.<\/p>\n

Hands-On Gardening Activities for Families: Salad Days<\/b>
\nIn the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden<\/a><\/i>
\nThrough June 7, 2013; 1:30 \u2013 5:30 p.m. daily<\/i><\/p>\n

The ”salad days” of the Garden year are here! The finale of spring is a bonanza of ripe roots, succulent stems, glorious greens, and a kaleidoscope of colorful–and edible–flowers. Use real plants and flowers to decorate a salad bowl collage. Learn tips on how to combine this array of plant parts into an assortment of salads and prepare a healthy dressing to take home. Plants and imaginations grow at the Howell Family Garden, where kids are allowed–no, encouraged!–to play in the dirt. Display gardens such as the Global Gardens and the Breakfast Bowl, and daily activities delight and inspire. Cooking demonstrations at the Whole Foods Market\u00ae Family Garden Kitchen run through October 11. Learn to cook flavorful new recipes using garden-fresh ingredients, twice a day on Wednesdays and weekends.<\/p>\n

In the Adventure Garden adventure abounds for kids of all ages with art and science activities such as mixing paints and creating science notebooks.
