\nArtisans from Oaxaca demonstrate their age-old techniques in weaving, embroidery, and gourd carving. Using the backstrap loom, these textile artists evoke ancient motifs with natural dyes, striking a beautiful balance between traditional and contemporary. Visiting artisans are part of the Uni\u00f3n de Artesanas de Los Alto women’s cooperative, and Chamuchic, a supporter of indigenous arts.<\/p>\n

The New York Metro area performance group has been seen by more than one million people over the last 10 years.<\/p>\n

Live Performance Art: The Two Fridas\u20131-5 p.m. <\/strong>
\nA part of FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life <\/em>
\nBritton Rotunda <\/em>
\nAn installation of specially commissioned artwork by contemporary Artist in Residence, Humberto Sp\u00edndola<\/a>, is on display in the Britton Rotunda of the Library building. Inspired by Kahlo’s double self-portrait The Two Fridas (1939), Sp\u00edndola re-creates her iconic dresses using a trompe l’oeil effect that closely resembles fabric. Special live performances with two male models posed wearing replicas of his paper dresses bring the painting to life on select dates throughout the summer and fall.<\/p>\n

\nExperience Frida Kahlo on the big screen with the Academy Award-winning film Frida, directed by Julie Taymor and starring Salma Hayek.
