\"Dia<\/a>This weekend NYBG is thrilled to welcome back the Master Carver himself, Ray Villafane<\/a>, who will once again lead our annual Giant Pumpkin Carving Weekend<\/a> with a live demonstration of his remarkable skills and daily Q&A sessions with his team of carvers\u2014with a special twist in honor of D\u00eda de los Muertos!<\/p>\n

This year’s larger-than-life pumpkin tableau will represent this traditional holiday from Mexico and will remain on display alongside the largest pumpkins in North America\u2014some weighing more than a ton\u2014as part of the Giant Pumpkin Display<\/a> from October 24 through November 1. It’s all part of the first D\u00eda de los Muertos Weekend<\/a> on October 24 & 25! \nHelp the Garden bid a fond farewell to FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life<\/a><\/em> with a celebration of D\u00eda de los Muertos, the Mexican tradition known for bringing together family and friends to remember loved ones. In the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, an ofrenda<\/em>\u2014an altar honoring Kahlo\u2014will be created in the midst of our evocation of the Casa Azul.<\/p>\n

Throughout the weekend (and again on October 31 and November 1), join in the festivities with a procession of larger-than-life skeletons, butterflies, and La Catrina<\/em>\u2014the grande dame<\/em> of this colorful holiday\u2014hand-made by Lucrecia Novoa and performed by Mascaraviva<\/a>, or stroll the Conservatory Plaza with the stilt dancers of Los Zancudos de Zaachila presented by Laura Anderson Barbata<\/a>. Dress the part by creating your own mask to wear or having your face painted for the occasion! This weekend will feature live music from Jarana Beat, with live dance by Calpulli Danza Mexicana<\/a>.
