Their designs improve the outdoor environments surrounding us in rural areas, urban settings, and suburban yards. At the Garden, aspiring landscape designers receive the instruction\u2014and inspiration\u2014they need to create those gorgeous and sustainable green spaces.<\/p>\n<p>This past month, in a Garden ceremony, 14 graduates received their <a href=\"http:\/\/adulted.nybg.org:8080\/cart65\/jsp\/index.jsp?categoryId=10119\">Landscape Design<\/a> Certificates. Elizabeth Poccia, the featured student speaker at the ceremony, credits NYBG with helping her find her passion.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe countless hours I spend doing work never really feels like work,\u201d she said in her graduation remarks. \u201cThe New York Botanical Garden helped me turn a dream I never knew I had into a reality. \u2026I never anticipated learning the amount that I know now in such a short span of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Poccia is now an Assistant Designer for Landscape Design Associates of Westchester, Inc., working primarily on designing and drafting residential projects that include formal planting design as well as hardscape design for patios and outdoor kitchen and pool areas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_53424\" Gonzales-Paredes, Poccia\u2019s fellow graduate, is diving just as eagerly into Landscape Design. Gonzales-Paredes, who also earned a Horticulture Certificate this year in Sustainable Garden Design, has started her own firm, Kini Landscape Design, and will work both in New York and her native Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Like many students, Maria\u2019s desire for a career change inspired her to enroll in the Certificate program, but it was the Garden\u2019s blend of unmatched resources and beautiful grounds that really drew her in.
