The holidays are photogenic: all those sparkling lights and (gl\u00f6gg-induced) rosy faces! It’s a time that screams for grampa to pull out his old film camera, for auntie to stick a Flip<\/a> in your face, and for mom to beg the entire family to pose in those special reindeer sweaters she managed to find in everyone’s<\/em> size. But not every holiday photo need be awkward<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here at The New York Botanical Garden<\/a> we’ve got photo ops aplenty, and they’re all beautiful! But there’s no need to take our word for it. Just ask any of the 250 members<\/a> of The New York Botanical Garden group pool<\/a> on Flickr<\/a>. Or, better yet, take a look<\/a> at some of the beautiful photographs that our visitors have posted on their own! And then, if you like what you see, you can join the group (by signing up for Flickr<\/a>) and begin uploading your own shots from around the Garden.<\/p>\n

If you’re new to Flickr, or to the Garden, feel free to post any questions you might have in the Discussion area<\/a>. We’re hoping to run some clinics and meet-ups later in the winter, especially inside the blissfully warm and amazingly photogenic Enid A. Haupt Conservatory<\/a>, so feel free to let us know what topics you’d like to see covered.<\/p>\n

And keep snapping! The Holiday Train Show<\/em><\/a> is a great place to take arty depth-of-focus shots<\/a>, rock the bokeh<\/a>, or to snap that perfect pic for next year’s Christmas card. Gorgeous macro shots<\/a> abound in the Nolen Greenhouses just through this weekend. Out on the grounds, the leaves are still spectacular<\/a>, and those trees that have already lost theirs are providing some awesome silhouettes<\/a> in fall’s low, clear light. If you’re into telephoto or wildlife shooting, there’s plenty of that on Garden grounds, too. Fall is a fabulous time to spot some rarely seen migrating birds in the Garden, and some of our more permanent residents (like our hawks<\/a>, turkeys<\/a>, and owls<\/a>) are pretty cool, too.<\/p>\n
