A taxonomic study carried out in the sphere of the project Flora of the Greater Antilles allowed elaboration of analytic keys for the differentiation of 14 genera and 92 species of Verbenaceae s.s. represented in the area. As a result of the research nine new combinations were established, the status of four genera was modified and ten Linnaean binomials were typified (which included the selection of eight lectotypes, two neotypes and one epitype). Among the main results, some substantial taxonomic and nomenclatural precision around Lantana camara L. and Citharexylum spinosum L., as well as the close relation of these taxa with other species, will be necessary.
