Thallus corticolous, tightly appressed, thick where corticate, splitting into thick cartilaginous longitudinal ribbons, separated by thin white, cottony medullary areas about equal in width to corticate, corticate areas sordid yellowish to barely greenish, with minute long-reticulate pattern, encircled by blackish-brown border, K- P+. Ascomata sessile, erect, and tall with thin incomplete white powdery veil often exposing one or a few striae above, ca. 0.8-2 mm long, not constricted at base, often slightly broader at base, exciple carbonized, closed below, few-striate above, inconspicuously so. Hymenium not inspersed, spores I-, huge, 1/ascus, 20x140µ, 27-30 locular. Protocetraric acid.
