Project Staff
In addition to the staff listed below, the Project relies on the collaboration and support of the staff of the André M. de Carvalho Herbarium of the Centro de Pesquisas do Cacau (CEPEC).  The primary Project staff are:

Sergio Sant'Ana

Sergio has been with the Project since its inception in 1990.  He was trained as an agronomist and carries out more different Project tasks than anyone else.  He maintains and is the primary driver of our Project Toyota, collects and presses, and curates specimens in the Herbarium.

 

José Lima da Paixão

Lima began his association with the Project in 1992 as a volunteer field assistant while attending a local agricultural school, EMARC.  He is the Project's primary collector and has the most experience in the field.  He climbs trees and is expert in the use of our 9 m clipper poles for collecting.  He also curates specimens in the Herbarium.

 

Pedro Fiaschi

Pedro received his Master's Degree in systematic botany from the University of São Paulo in 2002 -- his specialty is systematics of the Araliaceae.  Since coming to Bahia, his forte has become identification of forest plants, earing him the nickname of "Lineu."  In the near future, Pedro will attend graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University to get his doctorate.

Jomar Gomes Jardim

Jomar also began his association with the Project in 1992 as a volunteer field assistant while attending a local agricultural school, EMARC.  He immediately showed an aptitude for both systematics and field work.  Since beginning work with the Project, he has completed his undergraduate training at UESC and has earned his Master's Degree at the Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (UEFS).  He is currently working towards his Doctoral Degree on the systematics of Rubiaceae, also at UEFS.

 


Talmon S. dos Santos

Talmon S. dos Santos at EMARC, Uruçca, BahiaTalmon, now retired from CEPEC, has proven himself one of the most perceptive plant collectors ever in Brazil.  While having received formal education only through elementary school, he taught himself to be a botanist.  His intelligence, energy, and photographic memory has made him one of the most important figures in Bahian botany.
