The vivid yellow colors contrast markedly with the boletinoid, brownish pink to brownish red hymenophore. Just recently "discovered" in an oak woodland in the vicinity of La Chonta, Cordillera Talamanca. In Gómez's (Rev. Biol. Trop. 44: 59-89. 1996) recent treatment, only three species, all reddish brown in color (C. piperatus, C. piperatoides, & C. austrorubinellus) were known previously.
