The veined to sublamellate hymenophore, black stipe, infundibuliform pileus, and spore size will distinguish this taxon from others in the genus that are sympatric. First described from Colombia, it is widely scattered around the region of Cerro de la Muerte. Although we have not tried this mushroom, we suspect it might be edible. See also C. fallax. A recent description can be found in Doc. Mycol. 25: 488-489. 1995.
