Rhodocollybia monticola Halling & J. L. Mata

Photograph by R. E. Halling ©, 2004

This Rhodocollybia produces a pinkish to orange tinted spore deposit, lacrymoid to ellipsoid spores that are dextrinoid in Melzer's and cyanophilic in Cotton blue. The extremely crowded lamellae, fibrous stipe, bitter taste, the tan pilei and brownish spots on the stipe are diagnostic. Often found in cespitose clusters. So far, in Costa Rica, we have seen this agaric only in oak forests near La Chonta. It also occurs in oak forests of Colombia
