Photograph by R. E. Halling © 2003

This species of Cortinarius can be characterized by the squamulose pileus and stipe. Also, the lamellae are pale violet to lilac colored. The species appears rather commonly in the Cordillera Talamanca growing under Quercus and we have named it for the Savegre river valley.
