Boletellus russellii (Frost) Gilbert

Photographs by R. E. Halling, © 1997

This distinctive bolete is not yet known from Costa Rica but is to be expected since it has been found in nearby Honduras and Colombia. The long, lacerate/alveolate/ridged stipe is distinctive and somewhat reminiscent of Austroboletus subvirens, but the spore color and ornamentation is entirely different.
