Originally described from New Jersey, USA in the late 1800's, this mycenoid agaric is strictly associated with the old inflorescenses of Magnolia. Microscopically, the genus has a hymeniform pileipellis, and conspicuous cystidia on the pileus, lamellae, and stipe. The specimen illustrated came from montane oak forests at La Chonta in the Cordillera Talamanca.
