This taxon was originally described in 1979 from deciduous woods in the eastern United States. It is characterized by the rather drab colors of the pileus, white latex, mild taste, and the conspicuous change to deep lilac when bruised. The pileus is viscid when fresh and the stipe is scrobiculate. The voucher illustrated here came from a site called "La Chonta," in woodland of Quercus rapurahuensis, and Q. copeyensis.
