Rhodocollybia turpis (Halling) Halling

Photograph by R. E. Halling ©, 1996

This Rhodocollybia is aligned with the R. maculata group by virtue of the pinkish to orange tinted spore deposit, spores that are dextrinoid in Melzer's (image below) and cyanophilic in Cotton blue. The yellow color of the broad, subdistant lamellae and the rufescent trama when injured are diagnostic. In Costa Rica, we have seen this agaric only in forests where Quercus oocarpa occurs. It was first found in Colombian forests of Q. humboldtii.
