Cavendishia glandulosa A. C. Smith, Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 32: 497.  1932.  Type.  Colombia.  Antioquia (formerly Bolívar):  Cordillera Occidental, below Páramo Chaquiro, 2800-3100 m, 24 Feb 1918 (fl), Pennell 4301 (holotype, NY, photo NY neg. 9694).

        Epiphitic shrub;  mature branches terete, glabrate, dark brown to blackish-brown, the epidermis cracking in longitudinal strips;  twigs subterete, striate, muricate, tan when dry, hispid with yellowish-brown hairs 0.8-1 mm long.  Leaves subcoriaceous, ovate-lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 3-4.5 x 1-1.5 cm, basally rounded, apically acuminate, margins slightly revolute, somewhat glaucous and essentially glabrous above, pilose beneath, ciliate;  3(-5)-plinerved with midrib impressed above and raised beneath, secondary nerves weakkly raised on both surfaces;  petioles terete, rugose, hispid, 1.5-3 mm long and 1.5 mm in diam.  Inflorescence ca. 10-15-flowered, the flowers restricted to distal 1/2 of inflorescence;  rachis densely pilose, 1-2.3 cm long and 1.5-2 mm in basal diam. becoming 3.5-5 mm diam. distally;  floral bracts, oblong to obovate, 14-16 x 7-8 mm, apically obtuse or rounded, ciliate, both surfaces pilose and provided especially at base with spherical globular glands ca. 0.1 mm in diam.;  bracteoles seemingly lacking.  Flowers:  calyx basically glabrous, 6-7 mm long;  hypanthium cylindric-campanulate, 2-3 mm long, obscured by a dense covering of spherical, globular glands 0.1-0.2 mm in diam.;  limb campanulate, 4 mm long, with scattered globular glands;  lobes triangular, obtuse, 1.3-1.5 mm long, sparsely ciliate, the margins with 1-4 globular glands per side;  sinuses rounded, sparsely ciliate;  corolla cylindric but tapering distally, glabrous, 13 mm long and 5-6 mm in diam., lobes triangular, obtuse, ca. 1-1.5 mm long;  stamens alternately 7 mm and 8 mm long;  filaments connate into a tube 3 mm long, the filaments themselves glabrous, alternately 3-3.5 mm and 4 mm long;  anthers alternately 4.2-4.5 mm and 3.5-3.8 mm long;  thecae relatively smooth, 1.5-2 mm long;  tubules dihiscing by broad clefts ca. 1.5 mm long;  style 13 mm long.  Berry not seen.

        Distribution (Map).  Endemic to Colombia and known only from the type collection.  Rare and endangered.
