        Terrestrial or epiphytic shrub with stems to 3 m long;  mature branches terete, striate, glabrous, reddish-brown;  twigs bluntly angled, smooth or striate, glabrous, reddish-brown.  Leaves coriaceous, lance-elliptic or lanceolate-ovate, 3-13 x 1.5-4.8 cm, basally narrowly attenuate, somewhat short-decurrent onto petiole, apically obtuse to short-acuminate, glabrous, sparsely brown-punctate beneath, young leaves densely covered with brown exudate;  3--plinerved, midrib and lateral nerves slightly impressed above, very conspicuous beneath, somewhat reddish towards the base, veinlets obscurely reticulate;  petioles terete or subterete, rugose, (0.3-)1-1.5 cm long and 1-2 mm diam., glabrous, red.  Inflorescence fasciculate, (1-)3-5-- flowered;  floral bracts membranous, triangular, ca. 3-5 x 2 mm, basally truncate, apically obtuse or subacute, glabrous, marginally glandular-fimbriate;  pedicels terete, smooth, short-pilose with white hairs, 3.5-4 mm long and ca. 1 mm diam.;  bracteoles basal, submembranous, subrugose, ovate, ca. 2.8 x 2 mm, with persistent white hairs on midrib, marginally glandular-fimbriate.  Flowers: calyx glabrous to pubescent with spreading hairs, 5-8 mm long, reddish-green to rose or reddish-orange;  hypanthium cylindric, subrugose, 2.2-2.7 x 2.5-2.8 mm, basally slightly apophysate with a narrow rim or collar;  limb subcylindric, slightly spreading or campanulate, 2.2-2.8 mm long;  lobes triangular, subacute, 1-2 x ca. 2 mm, pilose to glabrous;  sinuses obtuse;  corolla bottle-shaped and bluntly 5-angled when fresh, slightly constricted basally and narrowing to throat, 9-12 mm long and 3-6 mm diam. at widest point, pilose with spreading hairs, white at very base and reddish-orange above, the lobes triangular, subacute, erect to slighty flaring, ca. 1 mm long;  stamens alternately 7-8.8 mm and 8-9 mm long;  filaments alternately, 3-5 mm and 2-2.8 mm long, nigrescent, glabrous, or sparsely puberulous distally;  anthers alternately 6-6.2 mm and 7-7.2 mm;  thecae slightly granular, 2-3 mm long;  tubules ca. 3-5.2 mm long;  style glabrous;  stigma truncate, disk-like.  Berry suboblong, red to dark purple.

        Distribution.  Endemic to Colombia and known only from Antioquia Department.  Rare and endangered.
