        Epiphytic, lianoid shrub;  stem terete to bluntly angled, striate, nitid, glabrous;  bark peeling off in thin strips;  twigs subterete, complanate, striate, moderately pilose with short, white hairs.  Leaves coriaceous, falcate, narrowly ovate-lanceolate, (9-)12-16 x (1.5-)2-2.5 cm, base rounded or obtuse, apex long-acuminate, margin entire, essentially glabrous on both surfaces;  3-5-plinerved from near the base, midrib impressed above and raised beneath, weakly pilose proximally beneath, lateral nerves plane to slightly raised on both surfaces, obscure above but ± conspicuous beneath, reticulate veinlets slightly raised but obscure on both surfaces;  petiole terete, rugose, weakly canaliculate above, ca. 4-5 mm long and ca. 1 mm diam., densely pilose with short, white hairs.  Inflorescence axillary, solitary, pendent, long-racemose, 3-4-flowered (?);  rachis subterete to bluntly complanate, weakly striate, flexuous distally, 9-16.5 (-25 fide label) cm long, the flowers restricted to the distal few centimeters, short-pilose;  floral bract persistent, acicular, 3-4 mm long, densely pilose with short, white hairs;  pedicel terete, striate, 25-35 mm long, densely pilose with short, white hairs;  bracteoles basal, linear-lanceolate, long-acuminate, 2-2.5 mm long, short-pilose.  Flowers with calyx 8-11 mm long;  hypanthium cylindric-turbinate, bluntly 5-angled, 1.8-2 mm long, short-pilose;  limb wide-spreading, deeply lobed, 6-9 mm long, pilose;  lobes ovate, long-acuminate, 5.5-8 mm long, venation conspicuously striate, weakly pilose;  sinuses acute;  corolla cylindric, not ventricose at base, carnose, 51-55 mm long and ca. 10 mm diam. near base, glabrous, pink (fide label), the lobes lanceolate, long-acuminate, 16-19 mm long, purple (fide label);  stamen equal, about equalling corolla in overal length, 44-46 mm long;  filaments distinct (or slightly coherent), ca. 5 mm long, glabrous;  anthers 41-43 mm long;  thecae ca. 7 mm long;  tubules 34-35 mm long, dehiscing by oblique, slightly flaring clefts, 0.8-1 mm long;  style ca. 50 mm long, glabrous.  Berry not seen.

        Distribution.  Endemic to Ecuador (Zamora-Chinchipe), and known only from two collections;  premontane wet forest at 930-1000 m altitude.  Rare and probably endangered.
