        "Trailing and festooning liana" (fide label data).  Mature stems terete or subterete and bluntly angled, smooth, glabrous, light to dark brown when dry;  bark cracking into long strips.  Leaves coriaceous, alternate, purplish-green when living (fide label data), ovate-lanceolate or lance-elliptic, 7-12 x (2.5-) 3-5 cm, basally rounded and shallowly cordate, apically acuminate, entire, essentially glabrous but sometimes sparsely puberulent along the veins on both surfaces, sparsely reddish-glandular fimbriate beneath;  5(7)-plinerved from the base, midrib and lateral nerves impressed above and raised beneath, veinlets obscure beneath;  petioles terete, rugose, papillose dorsally, glabrous or puberulent, 5-6 x 2-3 mm;  pseudostipules ovate-aristate, to 7 mm long.  Inflorescence axillary, solitary, fasciculate with 2 flowers per fascicle;  floral bracts ovate, acuminate, apiculate, 5 x 1 mm, glabrous, with conspicuous midrib;  pedicels continuous with the calyx, striate, 40-45(-50) x 1 mm, densely pilose with short, white hairs;  bracteoles basal, ovate, acuminate, 5 x 1 mm, densely short-white-pilose.  Flowers with calyx pinkish to deep reddish-purple (fide label data), 36-46 mm long, short-white-pilose;  hypanthium obconic, striate, somewhat 5-angled opposite the sinuses, 4-7 mm long and 7-9 mm across the summit;  limb spreading, 26-30(-40) mm long including the lobes;  lobes striate, lance-elliptic, acuminate, 24-28(-38) x 6(-12) mm, short-pilose within the lobes;  sinuses acute;  corolla cylindric, deep rosy-pink to reddish-purple (fide label data), short-white-pilose, 50-54(-60) x 10-15 mm including the lobes, the lobes triangular, obtuse, slighlty spreading, 14-16 x 4.5-5 mm;  stamens 10, 43(-49) mm long;  filaments distinct, equal, 2.5-3(-7) mm long, densely pilose dorsally;  anthers 41-42(-47) mm long including the tubules;  thecae 6(-9) mm, slightly granular;  tubules dehiscing by oblique, flaring pores 1-1.5 mm long;  style exserted, 46-51(-54) mm long, pale pink (fide label data).  Fruit unknown.

        Distribution.  Endemic to Peru, and known only from two collections from the type locality.  Rare and endangered.
