        Shrub about 1 m tall;  branchlets terete, deciduously puberulous, cinerascent.  Leaves coriaceous, ovate, 6-8 x  3-3.5 mm, rounded at base, long-acuminate at apex (acumen ca. 2 mm long), subentire and deciduously ciliate at margins;  obscurely 5-plinerved from base, the midrib often raised beneath;  petioles subrugose, ca. 1 mm long.  Inflorescences with flowers usually solitary;  floral bracts several, densely imbricate, ovate, acuminate, ca. 4 mm. long, ciliate-margined (cilia ca. 0.5 mm long);  pedicels less than 1 mm long.  Flowers with calyx hypanthium ca. 2 mm long at anthesis;  limb 4-5 mm long including lobes;   lobes 4, deltoid-lanceolate, ca. 3.5 x 1.3 mm, often ciliolate and tufted-pilose;  corolla subcylindric, 9-11 mm long and 2.5-3 mm. in diam., the lobes 4, deltoid, sparsely short-setose;  stamens 8, slightly shorter than corolla;  filaments castaneous, 4.5-5 mm long, densely pilose on all surfaces;  anthers ca. 4 mm long;  thecae nearly smooth;  tubules exceeding thecae in length.  Berry not seen.

        Distribution.  Endemic to Colombia, and possibly Venezuela (Cerro de la Neblina) and Brazil.
