It’s the first day of spring! And while seasonal color is just starting to perk up around our 250 acres, some of our favorite flowers—the snowdrops—are blooming all about. 🌿

Hear from Chris Elliott, NYBG’s Associate Curator, as he shares how these winter-to-spring beauties survive snow and ice to share their bright blooms before any other flower. Then find them yourself before they disappear for another year (the Azalea Garden and Rock Garden are prime spots to see them)!

The forecast is warming up over the next few days as spring weather moves in, making it an ideal time to get outdoors for some birding! 🪶

There are plenty of feathered friends to sight throughout our 250 acres, whether you’ve got your binoculars or not. Listen for the woodpeckers hammering away like forest contractors, look for bright red cardinals floofed up among the branches, and spot mallard pairs in the Native Plant Garden.

In the early 20th century, chestnut blight arrived in North America, a parasitic fungus that went on to kill an estimated four billion American chestnut trees. But more than a century later, work is underway to cultivate a chestnut tree that can resist the fungus—and thrive doing it.
