Warren Dean (1932-1994) was an environmental historian whose publications on the socioeconomy of Brazil and the destruction of its rain forest received wide acclaim as models of critical environmental history. Dr. Dean received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida and was William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of History at New York University in New York City. He studied at the New York Botanical Garden in the 1980s in research for The Struggle for Rubber in Brazil (1987). He was also a visiting professor at the Universities of Sao Paulo and Parana.
The Warren Dean collection consists of photocopied reports, articles, reprints, correspondence, and a typescript relating to the botany, economy, and history of rubber-producing trees of Brazil, especially Hevea brasiliensis. An associated collection of journals, reports, and trade publications was removed and integrated into the collection of the LuEsther T. Mertz Library, a bibliography of which is included in the collection below.
|The collection is organized into one series:|
|Series 1: Rubber Research. 1932-1987. Arranged alphabetically by media.|
