Biography of Arthur Bliss Seymour

Arthur Bliss Seymour (1859-1933), widely known botanist and mycologist, was born in Moline, Illinois on January 3, 1859. He graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1881 and received an M.S. five years later. For forty-seven years, until his death in 1933, he was with the Harvard University Herbarium. In 1888 he co-authored “A Provisional Host-Index of the Fungi of the United States” and in 1929 he prepared a “Host-Index of the Fungi of North America.”


Scope and Content

The Seymour papers comprise correspondence, manuscripts, and lecture notes that relate to his professional career as botanist and mycologist.

Series 3: Manuscripts. Arranged chronologically (dated); alphabetically (undated).
